Tiny House Designs
For a DIY cottage that you can build as a fully independent unit take a look at our Tiny House designs. They are small in size and height so they can conveniently fit into most backyards but are spacious enough to be used for rental apartments, retirement homes, or vacation guest houses when placed on their own lot. With material construction costs starting at $34,000, the Small House design for fully featured, energy efficient, environmentally sustainable homes include living, sleeping, dining, and bathing areas. Kitchens are equipped with upright refrigerators, ranges, ventilators, cabinets, and even dishwashers.
Our 440 square foot Victorian Tiny House fits comfortably in a backyard or on its own lot, and contains a separate living room, bedroom, full bath, kitchen, and dining area designed around a central courtyard. It even has a walk-in closet! Large windows, French doors, and high vaulted ceilings make the space feel far larger than its dimensions would otherwise appear. This Tiny House also features sloped wood beams, wood decked ceilings and sophisticated Victorian finished trim.
The 440 square foot Accessible Tiny House is specifically designed for those who find themselves caring for an aging family member or for retirees who want a place they can live in comfortably and economically. The floor plan includes a workable kitchen with gas cook-top, range hood, and a refrigerator. The full bath includes a large shower, toilet, and vanity. The unit has a 12 foot lofted, beamed ceiling and is built around an exterior patio directly accessible through large French doors.
If you’re looking for a simpler, less costly project in which you do not need a full kitchen or dining area, we would suggest you look into our Backyard Cottage kit, with material costs running somewhere between $15,000 and $30,000. It is worth noting that the overall project cost of a Tiny House could be $25,000 to $100,000 more than a Backyard Cottage because of the additional permitting costs, impact fees, and utilities charges associated with the building of a fully independent unit.
Designed to be built by the inexperienced owner-builder, our DIY Tiny House designs and Backyard Cottage plan sets sell from $499 and include everything you need to layout, purchase, and build a Tiny House or Backyard Cottage.
