Cottage Home
Meant to be compact and easily built, our DIY Cottage Home kits can augment any existing residential property, creating an affordable, energy efficient, environmentally sustainable, and versatile space that can provide a source of revenue, a private area for weekend guests, an affordable retirement home, or a convenient work place.
Each kit includes Cottage Home floorplans specifically designed for the amateur DIY builder. Included are color coded, easy-to-read 3D drawings for plumbing, electrical, wood framing, and finished carpentry, as well as a list of parts and purchase orders for those hard-to-find items. For California or Florida homeowners we offer special Cottage Home plans with structural and energy calculations customized to your specific building site.
There are several Cottage Home designs to choose from that are compatible with the architectural style of your existing home. The 192 sq ft Cape Cod Cottage adds a simple but elegant touch to your backyard as a guest room or even a child’s play house, featuring high wood beamed ceilings, plentiful windows, a convertible living/sleeping space, plus a small powder room and wet bar.
Our Queen Anne Cottage design offers simple, ready to use, full size patterns to help you create all the Victorian details at an affordable cost, such as sawn baluster rails, column capitals, classical window and door trims, and a long shaded porch. The plan includes a bedroom/living room, full bath, small kitchenette with a wall of cabinets, built-in refrigerator, and sink.
Intended for the experienced DIY, the Victorian Gothic Cottage plan includes full-size gingerbread and wood detail patterns. It has a comfortable and bright "L" shaped floor plan with 12 foot lofted beam ceilings, separate living and bedroom, full bath, a built-in wet bar, walk-in closet, and enclosed pantry-linen closet.
The compact Colonial Guest Cottage is equipped with a convertible living room/bedroom, full bath, a large L-shaped kitchenette, built-in desk-library, and hanging closet, making it suitable for weekends or extended stays. The details of this Guest Cottage—a clapboard finish and basic window and door trim—have been simplified to the maximum extent in order to allow the first-time builder a realistic project.
